I WILL KILL YOU GENTLY

The title of this article should be the subtext for the modern Republican Moderate, also known as the RINO. So what is so dangerous about being Moderate?

When you think of the term Republican Moderate, what does that mean to you? Just taking a look at the two words together, you might define it as someone who believes in the core values and goals of the Republican party, but is moderate about the means to accomplish them. Unfortunately, that definition is wrong!

Republican Moderates far from moderating Republican ideals, strive instead to bring about a moderate version of the leftist agenda, Sen. Olympia Snowe for example, nearly became the sole Republican Obamacare turncoat, before the Democrats decided they could get the full left wing wish list without her. Sen. John McCain is another whose flirtations with the left could fill a book, as could a recitation of the activities of current moderates, and party jumpers. The most moderate thing about them is that they are all moderately dangerous.

This brings us to one of the biggest annoyances about the Republican Party – They tend to support these “moderate” incumbents in primary elections, even when there are qualified solid Republican challengers, believing that it is better to support the unreliable incumbent with left of center views, instead of the principled candidate who is unlikely to betray the party that got them into office.

Listening to pundits such as Colin Powell, or Michael Medved, would lead you to believe that only by appealing to the moderates/center left is there any hope for the survival of the Republican party, Medved himself has opined that these off-year elections will not go well unless the language of conservatism is tamped down in favor of a gentle conciliatory tone that will not upset the left too much.

My message to Mr. Medved, and all the other talking heads is this – Get out of the beltway, take a look around the country at the Tea Party movement, 912 project, and the Pink Slip For Congress campaign, and you will see not a calm relaxed journey down a path called moderation, instead you will observe the stronger emotion of anger, coupled with activism, a rising tide of populist aggression based on conservative principles, that should tell you that 2010 will not be the “Year Of The RINO”
